Need an instant activity that really
works? Created or discovered a terrific game, activity or craft?
Well, here's an opportunity to glean practical ideas and share fun
activities. After successfully using and
applying your idea in a learning
environment, follow the activity format below and email it to Coach
JJ.
Through this cost effective and creative Idea
Exchange, we can communicate constructive activities
that produce results! By submitting and gathering new ideas,
everyone can gain confidence and encouragement
through each other's experience and creativity
without the added expense...it's play with a
purpose!
IDEA EXCHANGE FORMAT
NAME OF
THE GAME OR ACTIVITY - for example, Wall Ball.
CATEGORY - Preschool, K-2nd grades, 3rd-4th,
5th, or anybody who wants to have fun!
BASIC OBJECTIVE - tell what
we will learn or discover.(i.e.develop throwing and catching skills
by manipulating a
soft spongy ball.)
SET
UP - tell what kind of equipment or
materials are needed and how to set-it-up in the learning
environment. For example, have one soft, spongy ball for each
thrower and two different colored hoops laid in the center of the
room.
SAFETY
TIP - for simplicity, provide a safety tip that helps make
things easier. Like, setting tape marks on the floor, 8 to 10
feet apart, to spread the kids out evenly.
RULES
AND SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS
1.Give
each player one ball and have them face a wall designating their
throwing space.
2.On a big piece of paper post the skill
list; or give each thrower their own skill sheet; or for young
throwers, read the skills out loud, one by one, and let them perform
each skill first, then go to the game.
3.Consequence: if they miss they must
start over. After they perform the skills
without a miss, they run one Victory Lap
around the room, place their ball in the hoop, sit down and shout "I
did All The Wall Ball!". If a thrower needs help, they raise their
ball overhead to signal they want help and the finished players go
to their aid...cooperation is the key and the way to be!
WALL BALL SKILL LIST
a. Using both hands, toss the ball
underhanded to the wall, let it bounce one time off the floor, then
catch with both hands. Repeat.
b. Using both hands, toss the ball
overhanded to the wall, let it bounce one time off the
floor,
then catch with both
hands. Repeat
c. Using the right hand only, roll the ball
to the wall and catch with the right hand.
Repeat.
d. Using the left hand only, roll the ball
to the wall and catch with the left hand.
Repeat.
e. Now make up your own skill...Wanna
Play?
COACH
JJ SUGGESTION - - remember to enforce the
Consequence Of A Miss with older children so there's no confusion.
But for the younger set, tell them that just doing the skills two
times in a row allows them to take their victory lap, place the ball
in the center hoop and yell "I did All The Wall
Ball!".
Also, if a thrower is caught
cheating, they have to become "a spectator" and sit on their tape
mark so they "can watch how to perform the skills", with their ball
in their lap, until the end of the game. If they don't sit
holding their ball, they must wait one more game or give their ball
to another thrower and assist the teacher(retreive rolling balls,
etc.). This offers a structured environment for a successful
learning experience!
VARIATIONS - to anticipate various challenges, try giving
some equipment substitutions or a productive variation of the game
since we all deal with different groups of kids, room dimensions and
budgets.
I'll be submitting new ideas each week so
give-and-get some valuable
information and make your teaching experience easier...together we
make good things happen!
